ISO/IEC 20000 is an international standard designed to perform an objective independent assessment and certification audit of the IT service management system in the organization.
If the certification authority assesses that the IT service management system complies with the requirements of the standard, it will issue a certificate of compliance with ISO 20000-1 to the organization.
This certificate is proof that the IT service management system is set up in accordance with the requirements of this international standard.
- This means that this certificate is not in itself a guarantee of the quality of IT services
- The IT service management system is certified, but not the services themselves
If the IT service management system is set up in accordance with the requirements of the standard, it is a guarantee that the environment in which the services are provided is managed and controlled, and thus the organizational and technical prerequisites are created for the provided services to meet the customer’s quality requirements . ISO/IEC 20000 is a standard that has a similar meaning to ISO 9001, but ISO/IEC 20000 is specifically focused on the provision of IT services (or internal IT services), while ISO 9001 is much more general because it has a company-wide scope and is applicable for all industries.
